As I sit on my bed for the last time, I find myself succumbing to nostalgia. Philadelphia has been my home for the past 7 years, and although at times I may curse it's existence, I know that will miss this city dearly. With the end of the line rapidly approaching, I have decided to some of my favorite places in Philadelphia, with a brief anecdote. Here we go:
Kelly Drive/River Path - About 3 months ago Eve and I set out to conquer this tranquil, yet tortuous trail. 9.5 miles and 2 hours later, I can now say that I have run the Falls River Loop.
Bob and Barbara's Lounge - I have been going here ever since I first acquired a fake ID at the tender age of 19. I have celebrated at least two birthdays in the establishment, including my last. I will always remember, with mixed feelings, the Working Man's Special (12 oz. can of PBR and a shot of Jim Beam for $3).
Soho Pizza - This Old City gem serves the pizza in Philadelphia. Many nights have culminated in my devouring multiple slices of their BBQ chicken pizza.
Strawberry Mansion Tennis Courts in Fairmount Park - A stark contrast to the surrounding area, these courts are by far the nicest in Philadelphia. I have also enjoyed great success on these hard courts.
Temple Star Chinese - Located at 15th and Diamond, this store was a staple of my collegiate diet. I still have the number in my phone, in case the mood should strike. Amazing sweet and sour chicken.
The Bishop's Collar - This bar/restaurant located at 24th and Fairmount has a great beer selection, which compliment their tasty sandwiches. During the Phils World Series run, this place was a madhouse.
The Black Sheep - This Rittenhouse bar is home to the best quizzo in the city hosted by the pompous, yet effecient Johnny Goodtimes. We have played under the monikers of Herve Villechaize and the Penn 15 Club (see 5th grade humor).
Bookhaven - This is a used bookstore located at the corner of 22nd and Fairmount. Although I have only known of it's existence for the past year, I am a regular and have purchased everything from Haruki Maurakami to book of art created by Ralph Steadman.
Swann Memorial Fountain - Located at 19th and the Parkway, this is my favorite fountain in the city. I have many fond memories of spending time there.
